Puppy Raisers Requirements and Questionnaire

 

Court Dogs Victoria has their own breeding program, and also purchases puppies from reputable, registered breeders.

We are looking for volunteers to help with training our puppies until they are returned to us for further training, before being placed in their area of work.

This puppy raising and training will be under weekly guidance from our trainers. Puppies will have insurance, and carers who are approved will be required to pay for food only.

All veterinary costs are covered by CDV.

Puppy raisers must:

  • Be over 18 years of age, unless supported by a parent or guardian living with them.
  • Have a current working with children check, and a current Victorian police check.
  • Either own their own home or have permission from their landlord / real estate giving permission for the pup / dog to be allowed inside the house.
  • Have no more than one other dog, (de sexed) and dog friendly over the age of three.
  • Abide by the training philosophy of K9 Support including ‘crate training’
  • Have a secure fenced property.
  • Have transport available to take pups to puppy school, and also for vet visits and training.
  • Have access to a large city nearby.
  • Understand the pups are not to be left home alone for more than three hours at a time, and must be crated whilst unsupervised.
  • Be available to take pup to training sessions where required.
  • Fill in a log book of training daily during the pups stay.
  • Give the pup back when requested at any stage during the training.
  • Be in a financial position to pay for the pup’s food during the foster period (Vet bills will be paid by CDV)
  • Be committed to fulfilling the dog’s potential as a future Court Dog, and understand the level of commitment to this journey.
  • Be able to train from one to three hours daily.
